Getting started
Who can play?
Kids ages 5 to 12. Players are placed by age into Rookie (5-8), JV (9-10) or Varsity (11-12). Varsity players are 11 or 12 and must not turn 13 before September 1 of that season.
Do we have to live in Four Oaks?
No. We welcome families from Four Oaks, Benson and nearby communities like Meadow, McGee’s Crossroads, Elevation, Smithfield, Newton Grove and Dunn.
My child has never played football. Is that okay?
Yes. This is a developmental league, and plenty of players are in their first season. Coaches focus on fundamentals, safe play and building confidence.
How do I register?
Registration runs through the Town of Four Oaks Parks and Recreation and usually opens in late May or early June. Spots fill fast.
Visit Parks and Recreation or call 919-963-3112, Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
What equipment is provided?
Every player is provided with:
- Helmet
- Shoulder pads
- Mouth guard
- Socks
- Padded football pants
- Practice jersey
- Game jersey
All equipment except socks and the mouthpiece must be returned at the end of the season.
What does it cost?
Registration fees are set each year through Parks and Recreation. For current fees, email Andy Jackson with Parks and Recreation at ajacksonfofd@yahoo.com.
Do you offer cheerleading?
Yes. Cheer is part of the Four Oaks fall season, and our cheer squad cheers on the Cardinals at games. Registration runs through Parks and Recreation. For cheer ages and practice times, call 919-963-3112 or send us a message.
Is this the Four Oaks school team?
No. We’re a community program supported by the Town of Four Oaks, separate from the Four Oaks Elementary and Middle School athletic programs.

Practices & games
How long is the season?
The season runs from early August through October. Practices and jamboree-style scrimmages start in early August, and regular-season games are played on Saturdays in September and October.
When are practices?
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Each practice runs about two hours. Your coach will share exact times and the practice location.
Where and when are games?
Most games are on Saturdays at fields in or near Johnston County. We play in the Johnston County Youth Football League against programs like Princeton, North Johnston, Smithfield, Corinth Holders, Rosewood and Grantham.
Where are home games played?
Four Oaks home games are played at South Johnston High School, 10381 US-301 South, Four Oaks. The schedule page has every home and away field with directions.
Can I save the site to my phone?
Yes. On iPhone, open the site in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open it in Chrome, tap the menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen. The Cardinals logo shows up like an app icon, so the schedule and directions are one tap away on game day.
Will my child actually get to play?
Yes. League rules require every player to get at least 4 plays per half, and our coaches work hard to get every player real time on the field. That’s a core part of being a development league.
How big are the teams?
We cap every team at 25 players or fewer. Smaller rosters mean each kid gets ample playing time on Saturdays, not just a spot on the sideline.
Are there weight limits?
No child is turned away because of weight. League rules set weight limits for skilled positions like running back and receiver, and players over the limit play on the line. Every player is weighed once by a League Director. See the weight rules.
Does it cost to watch games?
League admission is $5 for adults (18 and older), $2 for school age (5 to 17), and free for kids 4 and under.

Staying connected
How will I hear about schedule changes?
Our free Facebook group is the best place for practice schedules, game days and special events. Your coach will also share team updates.
Where can I follow the league?
The Johnston County Youth Football League has its own Facebook group for county-wide news.
Can I help or volunteer?
Our coaches are volunteers, and the program runs on parent help. Email Andy Jackson at ajacksonfofd@yahoo.com and let him know how you’d like to get involved.
Who do I contact with questions?
The program is run by the Town of Four Oaks Parks and Recreation. Email Andy Jackson at ajacksonfofd@yahoo.com or call the Parks and Rec office at 919-963-3112.
